Toward Scalable Production: Catalyst‐Coated Membranes (CCMs) for Anion‐Exchange Membrane Water Electrolysis via Direct Bar Coating

Abstract Direct catalyst coating of membranes is an obvious membrane‐electrode assembly (MEA) fabrication approach. Nevertheless, it bears significant challenges related to excessive swelling the wetted and layers during coating. Thermal decaling, which currently used in proton exchange electrolysis, cannot be with typical hydrocarbon‐based anion‐exchange due lack a glass transition point. In this work, novel direct‐coating approach for MEAs membrane water electrolysis proposed. An additional adhesive foil minimize second layer. The resulting cell efficiency (1 A cm −2 at 1.8 V ≥ 1.9 mg Ir ) comparable spray‐coated cells, while mass transport reduced higher current densities (2.11 vs 2.27 2.7 ). fully self‐casted catalyst‐coated low thickness (35 µm) achieves promising performance 1.4 0.1 m KOH 2.0 1 KOH. Constant holds further shows comparably degradation rate both spray‐ bar‐coated cells (≈1 mV h −1 after stabilization period.
